Edinburgh

Edinburgh City Adventure and Castle Tour. Our wonderful experienced city guide will join us after breakfast to point out the principal sights of Scotland's Capital City.

We'll contrast the compact medieval section along the Royal Mile, with the wide streets of the 200-year-old Georgian New Town, as we drive along the bustling Princes Street. Dominating the city center, Edinburgh Castle contains the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Scone, and is our next destination. The rest of your day is on your own to discover more of this enchanting city, shopping and dinner on your own.

Culloden Battlefield

After breakfast, we board our mini-motor coach bound for Inverness. We enjoy the Culloden Battlefield and Visitor's Center along the way. On April 16, 1746, the last battle to be fought on British soil took less than an hour to reach its bloody conclusion here on what is now know as Culloden Moor. It was not, as often portrayed, a battle between the Scots and the English: large numbers of Scots fought on the Government side while the Jacobite army included French units and some English Jacobites. Rather it was the last chapter in a sporadic civil war for succession to the throne that had been under way since 1688. Upon arrival Inverness, we check in to our hotel and enjoy an Orientation Walkabout. Dinner tonight is optional, however, the Tour Captain will invite you to join them to a unique, distinctly Scottish restaurant.

Along the way we'll drive alongside the famous Loch Lomond, and take in the beauty of the lake and mountains as we overnight. Our travels this day will also take us through Glencoe, notoriously known for the Campbell massacre of the McDonald Clan in 1692. Upon arrival we check in, freshen up and enjoy an optional dinner or explore on your own.
